I need to monitor a huge number of channels. Do I need a state-of-the-art server for that?

Not necessarily. Even a regular modern-day quad-core processor can monitor several hundred channels at the QoS level. But even if you need to monitor at the QoE level, you can count on at least tens of channels, while being able to snap screenshots and even track quality metrics.
