Hi!

Why are the Elecard Direct Show filters not registered anymore to the system?

I had to do an install on a "dummy" PC and copy everything to my computer with the last installation when i tried the last update of the Elecard MPEG player. This was easier than registering everything manually and create the proper registry entries with the filters' GUID.

I don't need the filters for using them only with the MPEG player...

When you are installing the Elecard Mpeg Player 4.5 there are only streaming components being registered in your DirectX environment. All the decoders remain 'hidden' from other players (e.g. Windows Media Player).
So, from that point the playback of media files with the Elecard Mpeg Player does not guarantee that the same functionality will be provided for other applications.
But when you use Elecard Mpeg2 Decoder&Streaming plug-in for WMP you get all the components being registered (decoders as well) in your DirectX environment and can be used by Windows Media Player or other applications.
Such kind of distinction in managing of the DirectX components prevents the conflicts between different versions of files used in different Elecard applications. Old versions of Elecard products was designed in different way.
So, if it is critical to enable the Windows Media Player or other application to work with files which you can open only with the Elecard Mpeg Player, then only the Elecard Mpeg2 Decoder&Streaming plug-in for WMP can help.

The previous version 4.5 (and any other version before) registered all Elecard Direct Show filters and created the GUID registry keys under Elecard MPEG Player so that the filters get licensed. I need them for watching satellite TV, for MixMeister, etc. I purchased my licenses only because i need the direct show filters.

Yes you are right. Even version 4.5 was registering all their components until the build 070328. Starting with the version 4.5 build 070516 only the network source filters are registering.
The functions you've mentioned can now be obtained only with the Decoder&Streaming plug-in for WMP.

There is another update for the mpeg player, dated 13. July. Will install it later on my test PC and see what it does. Version/build no is 4.5.70713.
