I am trying the demo version and the output is 4:3. The input is AVCHD 16:9 from a Sony SR1. Why is the output changing the aspect ratio? Is that a limitation of the demo version or do I have a setting wrong? Shouldn't this be automatically determined?

Ps. This forum doesn't look like it has had any activity. Is this the correct place to post this?

Hi!

I have the full version of the Elecard Converter AVCHD Edition.
If I convert a clip from my Sony SR-1 I have the same Problem.
The file includes the information that there are square pixels. Normaly the pixels ratio must be 1:1,333.

I cut my clips in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0.
There I can chance the pixel ratio.
What Program do you use, to cut your clips?

I use Pinnacle Studio 11. I have not spent a large amount of time with it but I did read (either directly or by import) my SR1 AVCHD files. Then i place them on teh time line and output them to an AVI file. I can then import htem into Liquid.
I also have Vegas 7 (I still have to learn how to use it.) and that also will read the camera's disk, import the files, and then edit directly. I do not like the fact that there is no concept of background or smart rendering and therefore its slow. Others have made the same comment, as well (that it is slow).
I prefer Liquid but for $99, studio plus 11 does a really good job.

I had the same problem (using the AVCHD to MPEG-2 HDV template)
so I made a custom template and forced the aspect ratio in the video section to 16:9 and that seemed to correct the conversion in the final Mpeg2 file.

Just bought an HDR-SR7 and found that aspect ratio: "auto" resulted in an incorrect 4:3 aspect ratio.  Selected 16:9 manually and all is well.  Also using the AVCHD to MPEG-2 HDV template.

Thats odd. I changed it from auto to 16:9 but they are still "tall and thin" in premiere pro until I 'interpret footage' in PP and chose anamorphic 16:9 - then all is well.

Hello!

Let me throw some light on this problem. AVC HD camcorders capture video with 30:17 aspect ratio which is normal for AVC but unacceptable for MPEG-2 video format because the standard defines only four possible aspect ratio values: 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, and 2.211:1.

Initially aspect ratio for MPEG-2 video encoder was set to 'Auto' in "AVCHD to MPEG-2 HDV" profile which means that encoder was supposed to detect and set AR automatically. Unfortunately, it failed to detect the most appropriate value automatically so in later versions of the Converter Studio we've set AR parameter to 16:9 in HDV MPEG-2 profiles.

Perhaps, MPEG-2 video decoder included in Adobe Premier or the application itself doesn't persuade Video Renderer to keep AR setting unless you make it manually. Investigation of this issue will be continued.

I think you maybe need to right click the clip in the premiere project window and try the interpret footage option
